Dear
homesick Kiwi,
This
is the last pre-Olympics HUHU, so we look forward to
some good results from the Kiwi team next issue! Looks
like some late nights and bleary eyes are on their way
for those of us here at home...

|
| A
senior Government official suggested NZ might be on the
brink
of civil war if the Foreshore and Seabed
legislation, currently at the Select Committee stage,
goes ahead. He has since retracted that particular choice
of words amid calls for his resignation. |

Ailing
ex-All Black freight train Jonah Lomu received
a new kidney and is said to be recovering well, and
already planning
his comeback. His donor's identity was originally
kept secret but has since
been revealed as well-known Wellington radio
celeb and keen bodybuilder Grant Kereama.

| Tuku
Morgan (the man with the golden underpants) was yet
again in
the headlines for over extravagance with government
cash. On the heels of revelations he had claimed $70,000
for a film studio - which turned out to be his mother-in-law's
garden shed - it was revealed he had claimed thousands
of dollars to pay a Maori language consultant for a show
almost totally in English. |
|
| Nature
provided a reminder that it's not all "Free Willy"
when it comes to killer whales, as a marauding
party of orcas toured the Waitemata Harbour
leaving savaged carcasses in their wake, including at
least one dolphin and a 12 metre Bryde's whale . |

| Kiwi
renovator Gary "Gazza" Lewis, son of champion
shearer and national hero Larry Lewis (and nephew of novelist
Witi Ihimaera), became the first New Zealander to join
the Royal Family, by marrying
Lady Davina Windsor. |
|
| And
Labour has retaken
the lead from National in the latest polls
with Helen Clark's tough stand in the Mossad-spy fiasco
thought to be partly responsible. Cabinet Minister John
Tamihere gave a widely
reported speech on why red-blooded, blokey
men are important, and was taunted by the opposition for
seeking Helen Clark's approval before delivering it. |

| The
All Blacks scored a last minute try to beat
the Springboks 23-21 in a game where we largely
dominated possession and territory and the South Africans
largely dominated the scoreboard. |
|
| After
Australia beat the Springboks last weekend we face our
second encounter with the Wallabies in Sydney on Saturday.
Despite earlier injury concerns, Xavier Rush and Chris
Jack both joined
in training yesterday for what is likely to
be a tough encounter in unfriendly territory. |
|
| And
America's Cup holders Alinghi announced they had
dropped
the most successful America's Cup skipper ever, Kiwi Russell
Coutts, from their team. Coutts now has a battle with
the rulebook on his hands to try and secure a berth on
another team. It was also revealed Alinghi had
given Team New Zealand a US$10m,
unsecured loan to make sure they'd be at the
next event to provide decent competition. |

| An
Auckland man had an
unlucky evening when his car was stolen with
his mother-in-law in the back seat. The car was found
crashed, but the mother-in-law was returned in perfect
working condition. |
|
|
And
bookies in Australia, a country which has produced a
handful of good swimmers and a middle distance runner,
are offering
25-1 odds that New Zealand will not win a
single medal at the upcoming Athens Olympics.
